💬 The Magyars of WA Community Forum
A place to connect, ask questions, share information and contribute to the Hungarian community in Western Australia.
The Magyars of WA Community Forum provides a structured online meeting place where community conversations and useful information can remain organised, searchable and accessible over time.
Why a Community Forum?
Social media is useful for reaching people and sharing timely information, but older posts and conversations can quickly become difficult to find.
The Community Forum complements social media by organising discussions into topics and categories. This makes it easier to find previous conversations, continue discussions and build a useful body of community knowledge over time.
What can you use the forum for?
- Community discussions — ask questions and exchange information.
- Events & Activities — share and discover community events, programs and gatherings.
- Connect & Participate — find opportunities to contribute, volunteer or collaborate.
- Organisations & Community Groups — share and find information about Hungarian organisations, groups and initiatives in WA.
- History & Community Research — contribute photographs, memories, documents, research questions and information about WA Hungarian history.
- Site Feedback — suggest corrections, additions and improvements to The Magyars of WA portal.
How to get started
1. Open the Community Forum
Visit The Magyars of WA Community Forum .
2. Create an account or sign in
Follow the registration or sign-in options provided by the forum.
3. Browse the categories
Choose the category that most closely relates to the information, question or discussion you want to contribute.
4. Start a topic
Select New Topic, enter a clear title, choose the appropriate category and write your message.
Instead of “Does anyone remember this?”, consider something like:
“Looking for information about Hungarian businesses in Perth during the 1980s.”
5. Join an existing conversation
You don't always need to create a new topic. If a discussion already exists, open it and select Reply to contribute your knowledge, experience, photographs, corrections or questions.
Search before starting a new topic
One of the advantages of the forum is its searchable community knowledge. Before creating a new discussion, try searching for the person, organisation, event, place or subject first.
You may find that somebody has already started a relevant conversation that you can add to.
Follow the discussions that interest you
The forum allows you to follow topics and control notifications. This means you can keep up with discussions that interest you without needing to monitor every conversation on the forum.
Facebook and the Community Forum
The Community Forum is not intended to replace Facebook. The two platforms can serve different purposes and work together.
Facebook is useful for reaching people, sharing timely information and informal community interaction.
The Community Forum provides a more structured place for discussions, questions, research and information that people may want to find again months or years later.
A conversation can begin on Facebook and continue on the forum where useful information can remain organised and searchable.
Everyone can contribute
The forum is intended as an inclusive meeting place for Magyars in Western Australia, people of Hungarian heritage and anyone interested in the WA Hungarian community.
Contributions might include a question, an answer, an event, a photograph, a historical record, a personal recollection, information about a community organisation, or a correction to information already published.
