🎻 Hungarian Folk Music

Hot Paprika's repertoire draws on traditional music from Hungarian communities across the Carpathian Basin.

The ensemble has performed music associated with regions extending from the Upper Hungarian areas of present-day Slovakia through Hungary and into Transylvania.

Traditional instruments used by the ensemble have included:

  • violin,

  • viola,

  • double bass,

  • and cimbalom (hammered dulcimer).

💃 Music and Dance

Hungarian folk music and folk dance have traditionally developed together.

In Western Australia, Hot Paprika has frequently provided live music for Hungarian cultural events and has performed alongside Keszkenő Hungarian Folk Dance Group.

Live folk music provides an important connection between musicians, dancers and audiences and helps maintain the participatory tradition of the Hungarian táncház.
