Contribute
A community is built from more than money
Some of the most valuable contributions to a diaspora community cannot be measured financially.
They are found in its stories, photographs, documents, memories, knowledge, professional skills and the time people are willing to give.
The Magyars of WA welcomes expressions of interest from people who may be able to contribute to developing this community resource.
Historical material
You may have material that helps document the history of Hungarians in Western Australia, including:

photographs;
-
newsletters;
-
programs and invitations;
-
newspaper clippings;
-
organisational records;
-
migration stories;
-
family histories;
-
recordings;
-
recollections of former organisations or activities; or
-
information identifying people, places and events.
Material does not necessarily have to be permanently donated. Where appropriate, historical material may simply be digitised or documented with the owner's permission.

Knowledge and community information
Perhaps you know something that should be documented.
This might include knowledge about:

former Hungarian organisations;

community leaders and volunteers;

churches and religious communities;
-
schools and education;
-
scouting;
-
cultural groups;
-
sporting activities;
-
migration waves;
-
community properties;
-
publications;
-
historical events; or
-
connections between Australian and Hungarian institutions.

Volunteer skills
A modern community resource requires many different capabilities.
People may be able to help with:

translation;

writing and editing;
-
historical research;
-
digitisation;
-
photography;
-
video;
-
interviewing;
-
information technology;
-
website development;
-
data analysis;
-
governance;
-
accounting;
-
design;
-
communications;
-
event assistance; or
-
other professional and practical skills.
Contributing does not require joining a committee.
People should be able to contribute where their knowledge, interests and available time are useful.

Preserve something for the next generation
A photograph sitting in a drawer may eventually disappear.
A story known by one person may disappear with that person.
A community's institutional knowledge can disappear when volunteers leave.
Digital documentation gives us an opportunity to preserve some of that knowledge for future generations.
If you know something worth preserving, consider sharing it.
Participation and contribution are voluntary. Financial support is not required.
